Did you know that South Market District used to be known as Poydras Market?
Richard Campanella with the Tulane School of Architecture recently published a piece for Preservation in Print exploring the origins of the “South Market District” name:
Campanella writes about the area’s history as a marketplace and food hub, a legacy that the South Market District continues to build upon with the addition of restaurants, retailers and services.
Read Campanella’s article to learn more about the neighborhood’s history and see some great photos of the historic Poydras Market.
