Octavia Art Gallery, established in 2008, is a fairly recent addition to the downtown area, having moved from Uptown New Orleans to the Arts District in 2013. The gallery is now a fixture along the Julia Street route, fulfilling its mission “to bring regional, national, and international contemporary artists to New Orleans.”
The photo above shows the gallery during the annual Jammin’ on Julia event, which takes place every spring to showcase new exhibitions and local musical talent. Octavia Art Gallery will also be participating in Whitney White Linen Night, another annual event that draws thousands of art lovers to Julia Street for a huge, festive block party on the first Saturday evening in August.
If you decide to visit Octavia Art Gallery this year, here are a few of the exhibitions you can look forward to (all information is courtesy of the gallery’s website):
July 5-26: This exhibition features new works by both gallery and invited artists. The 2014 installment offers a wide range of artistic styles, imagery, and influences.

August 2: For their White Linen Night exhibition, the gallery will feature works from New Orleans-based artists James Henderson and Ayo Scott.
September 20 – October 11: Lois Chiles’ work focuses “on the natural representation of the human form that is simultaneously classic and modern.”
